Raising three young children may be difficult, but juggling royal duties makes parenthood even harder. Fortunately, Prince William and Princess Kate (née Middleton) have perfected the way they juggle their royal family responsibilities on top of parenting their kids, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
In fact, the Duke of Cambridge and the Duchess of Cambridge — who married in April 2011 — are focused on giving their kiddos the most normal upbringing possible. “Kate and William put a lot of emphasis on doing normal things together,” a friend of the pair told Closer Weekly in May 2019. “They just want their kids to be kids.”
In order to raise their brood to be happy and healthy children, Kate and William have taken a hands-on approach to parenting. Unlike earlier generations of royals, who were raised by a governess or shipped away to boarding school, the twosome prefers having their kids around as much as possible.
“To Kate, there is nothing more important than allowing them to express themselves,” the insider shared, noting the difference between their eldest kids’ personalities. “George is a curious child and a deep thinker” while Charlotte is adventurous and “bossy,” the source explained. As for Louis, the adorable tot is “more like Charlotte” considering he “has a cheeky streak just like his little sister,” another source told Closer in March 2020.
Despite the fact that Kate and William are less strict compared to other royal households, the source insisted that the parents still have rules. “There are boundaries,” the first insider explained, noting the children have been taught good manners. “She doesn’t want her children growing up feeling too entitled,” explained the source, who added, “if Princess Diana were alive today, she’d be proud of the way William and Kate are raising their family.”
With George, Charlotte and Louis growing up before our very eyes, royal admirers can’t help but wonder if William and Kate have any plans to welcome a fourth child. Though the longtime lovebirds have kept a tight lip about the possibility of baby No. 4, a source told Us Weekly that the duchess “would love to have one more child.”
According to the outlet, “having four children was always part of Kate’s plan.” An insider said the couple “put the idea on hold when [the coronavirus pandemic] hit, but now there is light at the end of the tunnel with the vaccine and [George and Charlotte] scheduled to return to school in April.” Therefore, “she feels ready to start trying again.”
